2009 Officials Information

To:  Alaska USAH Officials

 From:  Chris Milles

            Referee-in-chief

With the 2009 season quickly approaching, I wanted to contact everyone to get you thinking about the upcoming season.  This is a rule change year.   While there were not any big changes, there were a few minor ones that you will want to take note of when you get your rule book.  If you want to review the rule changes now, here is the link http://www.usahockey.com//Template_Usahockey.aspx?NAV=OF_02&ID=20072 .

I would also like to encourage you to register with USA Hockey early.  The 2009-10 registration season begins August 1, 2009.

With the change in player registration this season, Comp Teams will probably begin playing games in early August.  As a result, the first Level 3 and 4 Seminars are scheduled for the first week of August.

Beginning the 2009 season, USAH is implementing an online seminar registration process.  The benefits of this program are many.  First, once you sign up for the seminar, we can send out reminder emails that the seminar is still scheduled as planned or if there is a change in time or location, we can notify you of that also.  The biggest benefit of this program is that once you attend the seminar and I have been notified of those in attendance, the program will automatically update your USAH record to give you credit for attending the seminar.  If you are taking a closed book test, they must be mailed or Fed Ex to USAH.  If there is internet access at the seminar, you will be able to sign up at the seminar provided there is space available.

I strongly encourage you to take advantage of this process and register for the seminar ahead of time, as it will allow you to view your USAH history and track your registration process.  In addition, it will eliminate a lot of work for the USAH staff and volunteers.

The ASHA Screening Program is still in place.  Many of you completed the screening when it was first implemented so it is now time to re-screen.  To determine if you need to be screened, please check this list to see if your name is on it and secondly to see what your renewal date is.   The screening list can be found at  http://www.asha.pointstreaksites.com/view/asha/referees .  The screening program is not to be taken lightly.  If you are 18 or over, you are required to be screened before you can officiate.

Below are the instructions to follow for registering as an official and to register for a seminar.

Official Registration/New Seminar Registration Process

In order to become a registered USA Hockey official, the following steps must be completed.

1.  Officials must apply on-line with USAH and pay the annual registration fee at http://www.usahockeyregistration.com/

2.  Create a USAH Profile at http://wwa.usahockey.com/Profile/CreateProfile1.aspx

3.  New Beginning 2009 Season.  Officials must attend an appropriate level USAH officiating seminar, and if required, pass the closed book test for that level.  Seminar pre-registration is required beginning with the 2009 season for all Alaska Seminars.  Walk-up seminar attendees are allowed if the seminar does not have an attendance limit.  The seminar schedule can be viewed at either one of the following locations http://www.usahockey.com//alaska_ric/ or http://www.asha.pointstreaksites.com/view/asha/referees .  You can pre-register for a seminar at http://www.usahockey.com/ViewAllSeminars.aspx

4.  All officials must pass the on-line open book test.

Once all of these requirements are satisfied, the official will be mailed a card and crest, and will be considered completely registered.
