ASHA is proud to announce that Challenge Alaska is hosting a USA Hockey sanctioned Sled Hockey Tournament this April 28 and 29, 2014. Challenge Alaska has worked diligently to provide this excellent hockey experience for our community and ASHA encourages everyone to come and be a part of the fun and amazing event.
Your support is welcomed!
The Alaska Avalanche Sled Hockey Team is the only sled hockey team in the state of Alaska. Teams are abundant in Canada and the lower 48 and are often the beneficiaries of local foundations and/or professional teams. Currently our team has no such support and relies on the donations of local businesses and individuals from the Mat-Su Valley. We continue to seek sponsors to support our team and assist with the high cost of traveling to the nearest competition (the 2014 Disabled Hockey Festival is in Boston, MA). Please contact Jeff Dick at 344-7270 if you are interested in becoming a sponsor of this amazing sport.

Ever wonder how a full-sized sheet of ice looks through a child's eyes? USA Hockey put adult players on a hockey rink scaled to simulate what a child experiences when they play full-ice hockey. The results weren't pretty.

Cross Ice Hard Dividers Have Arrived
Cross ice hard dividers hits ASHA rink!
AHA and ASHA teamed up to purchase the first set of hard cross ice dividers in Alaska. Stationed at the Dempsey Anderson II rink, the Boards made their inaugural debute Saturday 3:45 pm as AHA hosted the Allstsrs and the Mustang to a cross ice Red White and Blue jamboree. The event was a huge success.
ASHA thanks Barrette Heisten and AHA for their leadership role and contribution to the advancement of developmental hockey in a Alaska. AHA is selling advertising on the dashes for those interested in the fund raiser to get the next set of these amazing boards.
Soon, there will be another set of hard cross ice dividers at the Brett Memorial Ice Arena as Mat-Su and ASHA have partnered to acquire a set for the Wasilla facility. The MTA Events Center will have a set shortly thanks to the hard work from Tracy Kalytiak and PAHA who secured the independent funding for their upcoming set of the hard ice divider boards.
It is ASHA's hope that we will see more coming to all the rinks.
